Iwan Fals, nama yang lekat dengan kritik sosial. Lewat syair lagunya Iwan Fals melontarkan berbagai kritik terhadap kehidupan politik dan sosial terhadap rezim (baca : orde baru). Namun yang tak dapat dilepaskan (dan selalu erat sebetulnya) ialah soal lagu-lagu cinta Iwan Fals. Selain sebagai pedoman dalam menumbuhkan kepekaan sosial, menurut saya, lagu-lagu Iwan Fals juga dapat dijadikan sebagai sebuah tafsir atas perasaan cinta yang penuh romantika dan disampaikan secara ‘serius’, gombal bahkan vulgar, namun tak picisan. Penuh makna mendalam rasanya. Setidaknya saya merasakan hal-hal itu dari beberapa lagu cinta Iwan Fals.
Lewat lagu Buku Ini Aku Pinjam suasana cinta Iwan Fals disampaikan secara syahdu dan penuh kehangatan. ‘Memang usia kita muda, namun cinta soal hati, biar mereka bicara, telinga kita terkunci’ menggambarkan bagaimana keintiman rasa cinta yang dialami oleh sepasang muda-mudi. Iwan Fals to release new album

Good news for fans of Virgiawan Listanto, who is better known as Iwan Fals. The ballad singer will issue a new album entitled Raya, comprising 15 songs in June.

“The album is now 75 percent complete,” Iwan said.

The singer, famous for his socially conscious and protest songs said that his latest album would have a variety of themes.

“[…] about life, love, nature , political anger,” the father of three said.

When asked about whether his songs would be strongly critical, Iwan said, “Criticism is not a style, but it needs air for life,” he smiled

Nevertheless, its shift on Syria is notable, if only because the publication often serves as a bellwether of elite attitudes. Its Syria pieces have been very funny and well executed, but the reason they pack an emotional punch is because they rely on the presumption of a shared belief—on the part of both the audience and the authors—that of course the United States should be doing more in Syria. As the administration reportedly weighs new steps aimed at ousting Bashar al-Assad, the question of how this decision is portrayed in mass-media outlets—even satirical ones—is very much worth watching.
